Running hostapd in a virtual machine?

I have a newbie question.
 
I have a PC with an ath9k card and a GigE card. I plan to install KVM and run a Ubuntu 10.04 LTS server VM on it. Can I run hostapd on the Ubuntu VM to make the PC a WLAN AP?
