There is a madwifi specific driver that may work better with old
MadWifi. You need MadWifi sources to compile it.

wpa_supplicant is now in git with all history imported from CVS. All
you need is to check out the repository, install qgit, run qgit there
and search for "endian". The patch is right there. I'm attaching it.
