[VPN] Smoothwall question

Let me start by saying I know I could join the smoothwallusers.org list and
ask this but I hate to join a list to just ask one question.

Does anyone know if the vpn functionality in Smoothwall will forward
multicast and/or broadcast packets from one network to another?

You could try running Smoothwall GPL at each house (www.smoothwall.org)
Smoothwall is 'free' and runs on almost 'any old box'.  It's capable of a
VPN between the two houses out-of-the-box.
