[vpn] Timestep compatibility

I tried several times to get it to work with a couple of different versions
of Raptor. The closest I ever got was an initial connection, but re-keying
would never work. We also tried TimeStep - Cisco PIX configurations and
quickly gave up. We are currently in the process of getting rid of ALL our
TimeStep Permit Gates including our client access gates. When NewBridge
bought TimeStep and then Alcatel bought NewBrige, service and support went
into the toilet. The TimeStep product gets $0 funding from Alcatel, and
like you said, no changes/patches/updates in a long long time.

If I were you, I would replace it with a comparable NetScreen or Nortel
device and be done with it.

Has anyone out there had any luck building a b2b IPSec tunnel with a
Timestep
Permit device and another VPN hardware device (preferably Nortel)? As far
as
I can tell, the Timestep doesn't like to play nice with others.

They may well work perfectly with each other, but nothing seems to have
been
upgraded since 1997. They still crash in about 3 minutes if exposed to
broadcast traffic and they don't want to work with Nortel--or even
FreeS/Wan!

At my place of employment, we use Nortel Contivities. Though far from my
first choice, at least we've been able to make it interoperate with several

different hardware/software vendors. I keep thinking I'm missing
something,
but I just can't figure it out and I'm tired of playing with crossover
cables
and trying to get it to work in a test lab.

Any feedback/suggestions would be very welcome.
