i would agree. Joe, you've been very fortunate. The pacBell broadband WAN
support group have really tried to stand out amongst a firm lost in delusion
and bureaucratic slurg. Time and time again pacbell has shown an approach
to customer service, professionalism, and technical excellence that is at
best, poor and insensitive. Unfortunately, the strong folks within the org
are hampered by a machine that lacks vision and a comprehension of their
customers' business needs. If you're not in tune with your customers, you
will fail, period.

For my own experience, I think PacBell is one of the worst DSL provider
ever.
Our DSL line has been disconnected by them it has been a month now and we've
been told by them the quickest way to be connected again was to install a
new line.
So 4 weeks after, a technician came today and said the (new) line was not
properly installed and it would take 5 more days to fix it.
Then, when you call their technical support, you get a new person each time,
they (apparently) don't follow your information wih your ticket number and
never call you back. They promise you heaven just for you to hang up. I'd
think twice about choosing PacBell again ... 1 month is a long time just
waiting for a DSL line to be repaired, especially when the error came from
the provider itself.

This information is purely regional. Outside of PacBell, the best providers
I have found for ordinary DSL are smaller local carriers that give a
guarantee on their back-end B.

I can get a Business DSL added to existing service in 5 days with PacBell -
10 days if it is a totally new install. Their repair time is also
impressive. The longest down time has been a few minutes (during business
hours).

One of the best semi-national providers of DSL I've come across is
Speakeasy.net. Their customer service is incredibly good, and their turn
around time is phenomenally fast. Of course they depend on a local
installer
to run the loop out to you, and that is where things can get frustrating.
At
least Speakeasy handles that for you. Their price is not the lowest on the
market, but then they also don't over subscribe.

I have several sites using Speakeasy.net and I haven't had any troubles.

On the opposite end of the scale is BellSouth. I cannot find words profane
enough to describe their lack of care and service.
