Red Hat & Solaris port security

To open and close ports you could always use 'ipfwadm' or the newer
'ipchains'.  I use them for firewalling, but they can be activated and
deactivated manually.

To scan for open ports, use 'nmap'.  It has stealth and open mode for
scanning ports.
