One cause of this problem that teased me for a few days, was that the
osiris client didn't have a proper home directory and proper permissions
to its homedir.

Try running your osirisd (not the orisismd) with the -r and -e flags, and
ensure that the directory you specify is writable by osirisd (better yet,
owned by orisis and chmoded 0700)
