Yes, the 3.0 code does have the recent updates to the message header 
structure.  Thus, it will be incompatible with the 2.4 releases.  I 
believe this is acceptable.

However, after thinking more about this issue, I do not believe it is 
acceptable to introduce a new protocol into the 2.x branch.  This only 
affects Solaris, and only affects the management console.  Instead, it 
will be documented that Solaris cannot be used as a management console 
until the 3.0 merge.  You can still run the scan agent on Solaris.  I 
believe this is acceptable.
