Because the 3.0 release brings a lot of new code to this project, it 
will be released alongside the 2.x branch.  There are still items on 
the 2.x roadmap (such as AIX and OSF1 support).  The 2.4 releases will 
be labeled as "stable" releases.  For the time being, the 3.x releases 
will be labeled, "current".

The scheduled release date for 3.0 is January 19 of this year.  There 
is currently no scheduled release in the 2.x branch.
