Excellent coding technique ;)

Actually, we need to put in a debug configuration for (at least) the 
daemons.  There have been a few times where it would have shortened the 
time taken to squash a bug.  I will do so in the rel_3_dev branch and 
it will (eventually) get merged into the main branch.
