Sorry, I was wrong about forgetting to compile the nl80211 driver into hostapd. The problem must have been my older installation of udev. It didn't even have the udevadm command. I got the hint about udev from the post by Luis Rodriguez on Feb 14th to thread "wpa_supplicant/ath5k won't detect hidden SSID when CONFIG_WIRELESS_OLD_REGULATORY disabled". <a href="http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4963&p=32214&hilit=crda+udev#p32214" target="_blank"></a><br>
