I couldn't find that bug in Bugzilla, including searching for closed
bugs. Not sure what happened to it. The new bug I posted is at
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454084 and I quoted you about
CONFIG_NO_STDOUT_DEBUG being intended for embedded builds.

I tried building hostapd without the aforementioned debug USE flag,
and ran a diff on the build configuration. The only difference is
CONFIG_NO_STDOUT_DEBUG=y, but adding that one line immediately makes
hostapd stop working. I think that officially makes it a heisenbug. :)
I'm sure it doesn't help track down the problem, but it's present on
1.0, 1.1, and 2.0. If I get really adventurous I may bisect the git
repo to see what commit added this behavior.

Thanks for your time,
