hostapd has been quite a bit behind on the unsolicited event side
compared to wpa_supplicant and this is only a recent functionality (your
0.6.9 is too old to support it).

No, but you would need to update to a newer version.

I guess that depends on "compatibility trouble".. If Fedora 12 does not
support newer releases, you would need to get it from a newer release or
build from source. While I would not generally expect issues in moving
to newer versions, there are no guarantees on that.
