Thanks, that got me a lot farther.

I built and installed crda, did an iw set reg US, and then I was able to get past that error.

I then ran into an error about DTIM, but I found this patch:

which got me past that.

So now hostapd is running without any errors.  However, I do not see it as an access point when I look from a 5GHz N-Capable device (MacBook Pro or iPad).

Do you see any other issues in my configuration which might explain this?

(Also, am I correct that hw_mode=a should set me to 5GHz-only mode?)
