wpa_supplicant support for roaming on wext?

Hi,
I have a couple of questions to begin with.

Does wpa_supplicant support roaming over wext on Linux in the hardware using
events like PMKID_CAND_LIST?
In case it does not, is there any major drawback while trying to implement
in the software?
