kernel 2.6.17: hostap_cs not working, used to work on older kernels

Hmm. if the wired ethernet PCMCI card is workiing, then the default irq_mode=1 is
correct, i.e. the pd6729 interrupts are connected to the pci side in the hw. So the
pd6729 socket driver is working then.

Definitely you have some sort of irq delivery problem.
