This is the expected behavior, i.e., a feature, not a bug.. Most of the
configuration variables that allow either a hexstring of binaries or an
ASCII string are written back in ASCII string is possible (all
characters printable). This happens even if the value was first set as
a hexstring since the format of the original string is not saved in the
runtime configuration.
