Main development happens in one branch (currently 0.5) and at some
point, the development branch is considered to become "stable". At this
point, the following release (e.g., the next 0.5.x release) will end up
being the first "stable" version of the branch and a new development
branch (e.g., 0.6.x) will be used for future development.

Based on release history (see http://hostap.epitest.fi/releases.html),
it looks like a new stable branch has been created every 6-12 months.
0.4.7 started the last stable branch nine months ago, so if past
behavior is followed, 0.5.x is getting quite close to being declared
"stable".

0.5.4 will never be called the latest stable release and neither will
0.5.5. 0.5.6 could end up being the first "stable" version from 0.5
branch, but so could 0.5.7 if there is need to do larger changes/fixes
after 0.5.5. There will be a period of new feature development freeze on
0.5 branch before a release is called "stable". This will likely happen
either after 0.5.5 or 0.5.6.
