Thanks to all for your assistance.  Although I have the skills to track down 
this problem, I do not have the time at the moment.  I was looking for an 
obvious "you goofed up your .conf file" kind of solution.  APs are so cheap 
now that it is more cost effective to purchase another vendor's product. The 
Linksys WRT54G ver.4 works great with FreeBSD 6.0 wpa_supplicant and a 
DWL-G520 rev.B interface.
