Your grammar is alightly confusing ;) I think you meant this:
You have problems configuring/compiling/installing HostAP for a 2.6
kernel, but with a 2.4.x kernel you don't have any problems.

Well, one way of doing it is this:

you should simply place your kernel sources in /usr/src/linux (or
edit the top most Makefile to point to the right location) and simply
type in:
- make
- make install (as root)

Please DO NOT do a 'make pccard' or similar; this won't work with a
linux 2.6 kernel, just do a simple 'make' to compile the driver.
Also make sure you have selected PCMCIA support in the linux kernel
(in case you have a PCMCIA/Cardbus card) and that you have selected
the option 'Wireless Networking' in the linux kernel (just select the
option, don't select any drivers).

There are also a couple of subdirectories (hostapd, wpa_supplicant,
utils, sniff, ...) which contain programmes related to the HostAP
kernel driver. To build these go into each directory and type 'make'
and copy the executables into the directory of your choice.

IIRC this all is mentioned somewhere in the FAQ/Readme and was
discussed a couple of times on the mailing-list.

Greetings,
   Max
