I did some more tests this afternoon and I noticed another strange
behaviour.
After sending the notebook to sleep while connected,
I see the following in the log

mgmt::disassoc
disassocation: STA=00:0d:93:83:92:7a reason_code=8
wlan0: STA 00:0d:93:83:92:7a WPA: event 2 notification
WPA: 00:0d:93:83:92:7a WPA_PTK entering state DISCONNECTED
WPA: 00:0d:93:83:92:7a WPA_PTK entering state INITIALIZE
wlan0: STA 00:0d:93:83:92:7a IEEE 802.1X: unauthorizing port
wlan0: STA 00:0d:93:83:92:7a IEEE 802.11: disassociated
Wireless event: cmd=0x8c04 len=20

This looks mostly ok to me, but why is it entering state INITIALIZE?
Now, the reykeying on the AP takes place.

wlan0: WPA rekeying GTK
WPA: group state machine entering state SETKEYS
GMK - hexdump(len=32): 05 b4 09 e6 9d 02 00 35 33 2b 61 59 61 d4 19 74
2e f7 04 57 5b 17 79 9b e6 06 e8 86 0a 29 f8 6e
GTK - hexdump(len=32): 06 c7 09 31 86 51 48 0a be 4c 91 24 a1 d3 98 1b
15 d6 96 30 eb bd f7 7a 8d a5 10 ae 00 92 7b ef

So far so good, but now I see this in the logs

WPA: 00:0d:93:83:92:7a WPA_PTK_GROUP entering state REKEYNEGOTIATING
wlan0: STA 00:0d:93:83:92:7a WPA: sending 1/2 msg of Group Key Handshake
Plaintext EAPOL-Key Key Data - hexdump(len=32): 06 c7 09 31 86 51 48 0a
be 4c 91 24 a1 d3 98 1b 15 d6 96 30 eb bd f7 7a 8d a5 10 ae 00 92 7b ef
wlan0: STA 00:0d:93:83:92:7a WPA: PTK not valid when sending EAPOL-Key
frame
WPA: group state machine entering state SETKEYSDONE

Why is the AP trying to perform a REKEYNEGOTIATION with the notebook,
although it was logged off a few seconds ago?

The next time I turn on the wireless card in the notebook it stops the
assocation process here.

<snip>
wlan0: STA 00:0d:93:83:92:7a WPA: sending 3/4 msg of 4-Way Handshake

wlan0: STA 00:0d:93:83:92:7a IEEE 802.1X: authorizing port
wlan0: STA 00:0d:93:83:92:7a WPA: pairwise key handshake completed

For me it looks like that the AP is thinking that the client is still
there, although he already logged off.
I am not sure, if this the reason for the problems I have though.
I hope this info helps tracking down the problem.

Kind regards,
Michael
