hostap-cs: Unknown symbol in module

Hello, All:

 I have the somewhat dubious fortune of owning two D-Link DWL-650 (Rev P &
Version 1.02) wireless adapter cards. The older card - the Version 1.02 card
- works fairly well with linux-wlan-ng-0.2.1_pre17-r1. The newer card - Rev P
- doesn't work at all with linux-wlan-ng-0.2.1_pre17-r1.

 Hoping to use the newer card and to take advantage of wireless-tools' more
advanced features, I emerge'd hostap-driver-0.1.2-r2 and unmerge'd
linux-wlan-ng-0.2.1_pre17-r1. I cleaned-up the modifications that I made to
accomodate linux-wlan-ng...
 I removed "alias wlan0 prism2_cs" from /etc/modules.d/aliases,
 I ran `modules-update`, and
 I removed /etc/pcmcia/wlan & /etc/pcmcia/wlan-ng.conf

 Now neither card works!!! pcmcia_cs recognizes both but hostap won't
configure either. I verified that the pcmcia_core, ds, and yenta_socket
modules are loaded but hostap_cs won't load. In /var/log/syslog, cardmgr
complains...

 linux2go cardmgr[6484]: + FATAL: Error inserting hostap_cs
   (/lib/modules/2.6.8-gentoo-r1/pcmcia/hostap_cs.ko): Unknown symbol in
   module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
 linux2go cardmgr[6484]: module
   /lib/modules/2.6.8-gentoo-r1/pcmcia/hostap_cs.o not available
 linux2go cardmgr[6484]: bind 'hostap_cs' to socket 0 failed: Invalid argument

 After reading the hostap FAQ I verified that I compiled module symbols into
the kernel

CONFIG_MODULES=y
 CONFIG_MODULE_UNLOAD=y
 # CONFIG_MODULE_FORCE_UNLOAD is not set
 CONFIG_OBSOLETE_MODPARM=y
 CONFIG_MODVERSIONS=y
 CONFIG_KMOD=y
 # CONFIG_IDEDISK_MULTI_MODE is not set

 What am I missing?
