hostap or commercial AP (as cisco) ?

hello All,
            i want to make an access point. i have 2 options (either choose 
HostAP or Commercial AP like Cisco ). Can anybody tell me what the advantage 
by using hostAp & what r the limitations e.g cost,protocol 
supproted,convinience,configuration,power,services etc.
suggestion are also welcome.
