What functionalities Prism Firmware does and What hostap driver does

Hi

In the IEEE 802.11 standard, there are many functionalities that involve
the 802.11 MAC protocol.  Some functionalities can be controlled by the
HostAP driver.  Some cannot be controlled because it is in Prism
firmware.   I'd like to do some research about the HostAP driver.  How
can I know what functionality is performed by the firmware or the HostAP
driver?
