Problems running hostap

Hey all,

I am still trying to use hostap successfully for the
first time. 

I am trying to build it on the following hardware:
Toshiba Satellite 1555CDS K6-2 - 380 MHz - 4.3 GB HD -
160 MB RAM - CD-ROM

I am following the instructions from jason's web
thingy at

I have madrake 8.1 installed on the laptop (kernel
2.4.8mdk). Following Jason's instructions, I got the
source for kernel v2.4.19, patched it with
2.4.20-pre9, and then with wireless extensions v 15
patch.

I compiled the kernel after various hiccups with the
.config file (attachment), and enabled wireless
extensions. 

After compiling and rebooting, when I build and
install hostap-2002-10-12 (I tried both pccard and
pci), I get no errors. But when I do "service cardmgr
restart", I see the following errors in the
/var/log/message:

Can anyone help me with this? I am not sure what to do
next.

I was getting exactly the same "Card services" related
error, with the 2.4.8 kernel because of which I went
on to the 2.4.20-pre9 kernel.

PS: I also compiled ethernet bridging in the kernel,
though I donot have an ethernet card, but use a usb
based lan (with the pegasus driver). That is built
into the kernel too.
